SHORT HISTORY OF BIRTH OF TITILOLA COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY, OSOGBO
Our parents were Gabriel Atewogbola Oyebade and Christianah Titilola Oyebade. Our father was blessed with seven children, six of whom were from my mother, Late Madam Titilola Oyebade. Despite seeming challenges, our parents were strong believers in education as a leveller.
They taught us the virtues of honesty, hard work and modesty in all things essential to move civilization forward.
They imbued in us the culture of teamwork. The idea of founding the school was part of that teamwork.
Our father died on 1st May, 1983. He made a choice of private burial with no fanfare at all. That was exactly what happened.
Our mother was responsible for sponsoring the upper part of our secondary education and was fully responsible for our sponsorship for tertiary education; four mean and two women who are her children. She was responsible to seek for employment for us despite her limitation in education.
In January 1992, she was diagnosed of having cancer of the gall bladder. She underwent exploratory surgery at the University College Hospital, Ibadan which only gave her temporary relief. The cancer metastasized. When it was apparent that she would pass on she requested for a special prayer which curiously was conducted by herself.
She requested for private burial with no fanfare too. She pleaded that any money that we were to spend to entertain our friends to mark her exit should be spent to start a charity initiative after her. The idea to pursue an institution in her name was born. Incidentally, three of her children read education, and today one of us is a Professor of Education in the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Professor Stephen Adebanjo Oyebade. On 16th September 1992, she passed on. Her choice of private burial with no fanfare was strictly obeyed.
A memorial public lecture was held in her honour at the Conference Room of Ife North Local Government Ipetumodu on the topic: “Cancer and You” delivered by Dr Musibau Adelasoye, Osun State Director of Primary Health (now retired).
In October, 1992, an evening school was inaugurated by Dr Adebanjo Oyebade in Ilesa to assist secondary school students to update their knowledge. The evening lesson grew to be a private school and expanded in quality and quantity. Professor Adebanjo Oyebade relocated from the College of Education, Ilesa to University of Lagos. The school was moved from Ilesa to Osogbo to become Titilola Memorial Group of School in 2001. The Group also gave birth to Titilola College of Health Technology in 2021 as part of the larger dream to promote Health Education and overall development of the community as demanded by our Late mother, Madam Titilola Aduke Oyebade.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
